An Advocacy Win for the Nonprofit Community

As you know, President Trump and Congressional Republicans recently passed the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act, extending provisions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and enacting a number of other priorities.

Early versions of that bill included provisions that would have imposed harmful tax changes on nonprofits. Thanks to strong advocacy, those provisions were removed. Even better, the final law expands the use of 529 Plan savings to cover professional credentialing and certifications, programs offered by many associations. That’s a clear win for the nonprofit community.

Much of the credit goes to ASAE’s Community Impact Coalition, of which the AMC Institute has been a proud member. The Coalition’s coordinated advocacy and communications campaign had a significant impact, and its efforts contributed to this outstanding outcome.

But the fight isn’t over. Lawmakers may again look to nonprofits as a source of new revenue to fund future initiatives. At the recent ASAE Annual Meeting, the Coalition committed to staying ahead of these challenges with ongoing, targeted messaging about the essential role our clients play in industries, professions, and society. The AMC Institute will keep you informed and call on your support when needed.

In the meantime, please know that your membership and support for the AMC Institute played a key role in this success.

Please reach out with any questions you may have.
