TMG Chief Diversity Officer Appointed to Events Industry Council’s Equity Task Force

Derrick Johnson is added to Task Force as part of the Council’s desire to address systemic racism within the industry

MT. ROYAL, NJ – February 18, 2021 – Talley Management Group, Inc. (TMG), a 33-year, employee-owned leading association management company, is proud to announce the appointment of TMG’s Chief Diversity Officer Derrick Johnson, CMP, DES, to the Event Industry Council’s (EIC) Equity Task Force. Johnson joins a full list of industry professionals who are seeking to accelerate inclusion, measuring the goal with specifically identified benchmarks and metrics. In addition to his role of Chief Diversity Officer, Derrick is also the Director of Event Strategy and Development at TMG.

“The overall thought of diversity, equity and inclusion or DEI, was always this ‘thought’ but never was it an item measured by actual implementation,” said CEO Gregg H. Talley, FASAE, CAE. “Last year, we witnessed decades of hate come to a head and as a company, all of us vowed to take actions, rather than just to make statements. I commend all of our team members who have risen to my repeated challenge of taking action and making differences that will make change, while also changing mindsets of themselves and others. The Equity Task Force is most certainly one that will bring action to words that for too long have just been discussions.”

Before joining, TMG Derrick served as the Executive Director for the National Behavioral Intervention Team located in King of Prussia, PA. Prior to that, Derrick was the Senior Director of Meetings for The Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers. A graduate of the University of Florida, Derrick holds a Master of Science in Business Leadership and Management from Western Governors University. In addition, he has a Certificate in Artificial Intelligence: Implications for Business Strategy from MIT, the Digital Event Strategist (DES) credential from PCMA and is a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP). Derrick joined the PCMA Board of Directors in 2019 and is the Chair of the LGBT Meeting Professionals Association.

The EIC Equity Task Force will work in support of the global business events sector, and the work of EIC’s Centre for Sustainability and Social Impact. The task force is charged with addressing systemic racism in the business events and hospitality industry by developing a meaningful framework for action to accelerate inclusion. The EIC Centre for Sustainability and Social Impact is a representation of EIC's vision, mission, and values. It is dedicated to providing globally relevant resources that champion the adoption of sustainable and socially impactful practices.
